Eno Yet to Authorize A’Ibom Assembly to Legislate on State Police Bill – Otu

By Sunday Anthony, Uyo

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) has explained why it is yet to commence deliberations on the bill to establish State Police.

The chairman committee on information of the AKHA, Jerry Otu told our correspondent in Uyo that the Assembly is waiting for Governor Umo Eno to authorize it to consider the Bill.

Otu said that the bill officially got to the Speaker, Rt Hon Udeme Otong on Tuesday 29 September, 2026, but that the Assembly needs the permission of the Governor to go ahead with deliberations on it.

He said, “The State Police Bill got to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt.Hon Udeme Otong on the the 29th of October but it has not been presented yet at plenary.

“We have not done anything yet on the Bill. We have not started any on it. Instructions must come from the Governor. The Governor has to give his consent and until His Excellency The Governor gives consent we can’t do anything on the Bill”.

“We aware of the existence of the bill but we are yet to sight it let alone go through and properly understand the nitty gritty of it.

“Hopefully, when the Governor gives us the permission, Speaker will present the bill before lawmakers at plenary and then we will consider it expeditiously for further action”.
