President Bola Tinubu has assured Akwa Ibom people of his administration’s approval for the establishment of the Ibom Deep Seaport to enhance more job opportunities and economic development.
Tinubu, who gave the assurance on Friday in Uyo at the flag off of his two-day visit to Akwa Ibom, said the seaport project was strategic to reshape the maritime economy landscape in Nigeria and its South-South region.
According to him, the Ibom deep seaport will bring substantial economic benefits, facilitate trade, and open new frontiers of development for the country at large.
He also assured of his administration’s resolve to expand opportunities in education, employment, and skills development, for the state to benefit from the economic transformation agenda of the federal government.
He urged the people and residents of the state particularly the youth, to embrace education, acquire relevant skills, and participate actively in the democratic process.
Eno said the Ibom deep seaport would be more than a maritime facility as well as an economic and international investment gateway for industrial growth across the Niger Delta.
He also called on residents of voting age to get their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) as their instrument for political influence.
The president said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) expected massive votes for its candidates in the 2027 general elections in Akwa Ibom state.
“Your PVC is the weapon you need to defeat tyranny, defeat those who do not appreciate the value of a growing economy and the value of promising prosperity. I will depend on you to vote for APC. Your weapon is your PVC,” he said.
Earlier Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom said the President’s visit was a demonstration of a robust relationship between the federal government and the people of the state.
The governor recalled the federal interventions in Akwa Ibom, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, N5.8 billion in Nigerian Education Loan Fund disbursements to more than 43,000 students from the state.
Eno also commended the Tinubu administration for the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture at Obio Akpa and other federal institutions in the State.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the state’s strategic requests, adding that they were historic interventions for enduring benefits to present and future generations.
