As the 2027 elections gradually approach, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Cross River state has called on those who are yet to obtain their permanent voter cards (PVC) to do so, saying it was targeting 2.5 million votes in the polls.
Addressing Journalists in Calabar, weekend, IPAC Chairman in the State, Engr. Effiom Edet Okon, who was flanked by leaders of other political parties, charged Cross Riverians to make use of the window of opportunity provided by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to get their PVC before the expiration of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
He said the issue of getting involved in elections “is about our collective future, our democratic responsibility, and the power of every citizen to determine the direction of our State through the ballot.
“The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is gradually coming to an end. The remaining days present a final opportunity for every eligible Cross Riverian to secure his or her place in history by registering to vote.
“Our message today is simple and clear: No Voter’s Card, No Voice. No Registration, No Participation. Democracy begins with voter registration.
“Over the past weeks, IPAC has mobilised political parties across the eighteen local government areas, working hand in hand with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organisations, youth and women groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market associations, and community stakeholders to ensure that no eligible citizen is left behind.”
Engr Edet explain that the group was embarking on sensitization campaign to “make Cross River State one of the strongest voting states in Nigeria”, adding “together, we can surpass 2.5 million voters in Cross River State in the 2027 general elections. Together, we will deepen democracy.”
He lauded Governor Bassey Otu, “for his unwavering commitment to democratic governance and inclusive leadership,” noting that the Governor “has demonstrated that democracy is strengthened when every legally registered political party is recognised as a stakeholder in governance.”
