In a move to tackle unemployment and promote self-reliance among the youth, the Cross River State Government is ready to roll out it’s Vocational Skills Entrepreneurship Programme (VoEP), designed to equip young people with practical skills for the modern economy.
The programme, introduced by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Content, is expected to provide participants with opportunities for self-development and economic independence.
Authorities said the initiative reflects the vision of Governor Bassey Edet Otu to create sustainable opportunities for youths through vocational education and entrepreneurship.
Under the programme, selected participants will receive intensive training in different vocational fields at advanced training centres located across the state.
The first batch of the programme is expected to commence in May 25 and conclude on July 1, 2026.
Government officials explained that the training curriculum combines technical skills with entrepreneurial knowledge to prepare participants for both employment and business ownership.
In addition to the training, participants may also benefit from access to intervention funds intended to assist graduates in establishing small businesses after completion.
Speaking during a press interaction, Ambassador Awatt Caleb described the initiative as a major investment in the future of Cross River youths.
He said, “This programme is designed to give our youths the confidence, knowledge, and practical skills required to compete successfully in today’s rapidly changing world,” while urging interested applicants to register and participate actively.
