The management of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH has highlighted major infrastructural improvements carried out under the leadership of Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme.
The CMD disclosed this during a media interaction and facility tour with journalists in Calabar on Friday.
Prof. Ikpeme said the hospital had recorded remarkable progress in both clinical and non-clinical services through renovation, remodeling and upgrading of several departments.
Among the newly completed projects unveiled were the Dr. Obal Adiaha Otu Female Medical Ward, Prof. Emmanuel Nwafor Uzoma Ezedinachi Male Medical Ward and Prof. Edet Okon Nkposong Urology Clinic.
He also announced the completion and operational commencement of the Prof. Hannah Bassey Faal Ophthalmology Clinic.
The CMD also stated that the teaching hospital currently operates 62 clinical and non-clinical departments, with about 38 wards and clinics serving patients across different specialties.
The CMD listed some of the units to include male and female medical wards, orthopedic wards, pediatric wards, cardiothoracic units, antenatal and postnatal wards, gynecology units, isolation centres and the surgical and stroke centre.
Prof. Ikpeme explained that most of the wards had either undergone complete remodeling or received structural facelifts aimed at improving patient care and working conditions.
“When we talk about facelift, it means we upgraded and repainted facilities, but remodeling involves total restructuring of the ward environment,” he said.
