No fewer than 301 undergraduates from different institutions of higher learning on Saturday won the Monday Onyeme Scholarship scheme for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State.
The undergraduates, who will get not less than N200,000 each, passed the aptitude test organised at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba for those who applied.
The scholarship scheme is an annual programme sponsored by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme.
Addressing the students, Sir Onyeme, who supervised the aptitude test, said the scholarship scheme was to encourage and support undergraduates from the Delta North Senatorial District.
He said, “For this year’s scholarship scheme, 650 undergraduates from Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency were shortlisted for the aptitude test, four hundred and 474 candidates appeared and sat for the test, while 301 candidates passed.”
Sir Onyeme, who congratulated those who passed the test, also stated: “What we witnessed today is an improvement on what we witnessed last year, and for this year, eight persons will be taken from successful students from each ward in Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.
”Also, all successful students will get N200,000 each; the top scorer from Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency will get an additional N200,000, while the candidates in second and third place will get an additional N150,000 each.”
The Deputy Governor added that candidates from Ika Federal Constituency will sit for their aptitude test on Aug.23.
Miss Ubaka Treasure, from Aniocha South Ward 4, scored 45 marks to emerge as the top scorer from Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, while Ubaka Daniel, who is also from Aniocha North, and Ojenuwa Chukwueme, from Oshimili South, scored 44 to finish in joint second place.
The top scorer, Ubaka Treasure, a student of International Relations from Admiralty University, Ibusa, said she was grateful to God.
She also lauded Sir Onyeme for putting smiles on the faces of the affected undergraduates.
